Aktuelle Simplifizierungsdebatte - Auf dem Weg zu einer wettbewerbsfähigen Bankenregulierung

The debate over simpler yet competitive banking regulation has gained significant momentum. The decisive phase is now beginning: The European Commission’s consultation on the competitiveness of the European banking market has received over 200 responses, which will be analyzed in a competitiveness report by July 15, 2026. The European Parliament, the Council of the EU, and the Commission have announced a reform package (“Amendments to the banking framework”) for early 2027.

The webinar, led by Dr. Teo Geldner and Sebastian Moll (both from the Association of German Banks), addresses these developments and provides an overview of the anticipated key issues and points of contention in the upcoming reforms. Key topics include barriers to market integration, the potential further development of a European deposit insurance scheme, and supervisory issues, such as those related to the capital framework.

Another focus of the event is the question of proportionality in banking regulation. Together with Dr. Sabine Albrecht, Head of Microprudential Regulation at the Deutsche Bundesbank, possible approaches for a specific small-bank regime as well as alternative considerations regarding the expansion of SNCI status will be discussed.

In addition to providing expert analysis, the event focuses on fostering dialogue with participants. The aim of the event is to contextualize key developments in the current debate and to highlight potential implications for banks at an early stage.

Specialists and managers from compliance, banking supervision, risk management, legal, and related areas.
